Overflow Integration
Grain Ledger is church fund accounting software that connects to Overflow through Overflow’s API. Card, ACH, stock, crypto and DAF gifts sync into Grain automatically. Each Overflow campaign goes into the Grain fund you choose, and each deposit arrives with its fees and refunds, ready to match to the bank. There’s no CSV to export or reformat.
Giving in Grain
From Overflow to your ledger
Grain connects to Overflow so finance teams keep one system of record for gifts, campaigns, donors, and deposits alongside banking and spend integrations.
Every gift type
GivingCard, ACH, stock, crypto and donor-advised fund gifts sync from Overflow, along with cash and checks your team records there. Stock and crypto gifts count once Overflow marks them complete or pays them out.
- Share counts and tokens kept on each stock and crypto gift
- Recurring Overflow gifts tracked as giving schedules
- Manually entered cash and checks grouped into daily batches
Campaign & location mapping
SetupMap each Overflow campaign and subcampaign to a Grain fund and revenue account before the first import. Locations can tag their gifts with a dimension for multi-campus reporting.
- Mapping read from your live Overflow campaigns
- Subcampaigns map on their own when you use them
- Location tags for campus and ministry reports
Donor matching
PeopleMatch Overflow donors to Grain donors by email and name, so giving history stays in one record across every platform your church uses.
- One giving history across integrations
- Family members sharing an email stay separate
- Anonymous gifts stay anonymous
Deposits & reconciliation
CloseEach Overflow deposit arrives as a settlement with its gifts, fees, refunds and chargebacks, and Grain matches it to the bank deposit from your Plaid feed.
- Fees posted to the account you choose
- Refunds and chargebacks recorded as reversals
- Deposits that don’t add up flagged for review
How does Overflow giving get into accounting software?
Overflow’s docs offer two routes: export deposits as CSV files and enter them in your ledger, or push confirmed gifts to another app with Zapier. Both work, but you’re the one moving the data. Grain is the third route. Gifts arrive already mapped to their fund, and each deposit comes with its fees and refunds.
Overflow
Deposit CSV export
Export a deposit’s contributions, or its funds allocation by campaign and location, as a CSV and key it into your ledger. Exports no longer list a deposit total, so you add up the contributions under each deposit ID to match the bank.
Overflow
Zapier (beta)
Send each confirmed contribution to another app through Overflow’s Zapier trigger. You build and maintain the zap, and deposits, fees and refunds still need handling of their own.
Grain Ledger
Grain’s direct connection
Grain reads your Overflow campaigns when you connect, and you map each one to a Grain fund and revenue account once. From then on, gifts, donors, deposits, fees and refunds sync on a schedule and by webhook, and each deposit arrives as a settlement ready to match to the bank. Your job is the review.
Built for fund accounting
Restricted and unrestricted gifts stay separated so statements and GAAP-style reports match how your church actually operates.
Non-cash gifts in the same ledger
Stock, crypto and DAF gifts land in the same funds and reports as card and ACH giving, so nothing lives in a side spreadsheet.
Instant updates
Add Grain’s webhook in Overflow and new gifts and deposits sync within minutes, with a nightly sweep to catch anything missed.
How it works
Three steps to connected giving
Connect Overflow
Enter your Overflow client ID and API key in Grain. Grain checks the connection before anything syncs.
Map campaigns
Map each active Overflow campaign and subcampaign to a Grain fund and revenue account, then pick the cash and fee accounts deposits post to.
Sync and review
Grain syncs every two hours, or right away once you add its webhook in Overflow. Review gifts and deposits with your normal approval process.
Common questions
- How do stock and crypto gifts from Overflow show up in Grain?
- As gifts to the fund their campaign maps to, with the share count or token on the gift. Grain records the amount Overflow reports, and a stock or crypto gift counts once Overflow marks it complete or pays it out, not while it is still being liquidated. Overflow sells liquidated stock and crypto and sends the cash to your bank, so the proceeds can differ from the receipted value. Review those deposits before you close the month.
- Do I need to export a CSV from Overflow to use Grain?
- No. You enter your Overflow client ID and API key in Grain once, and Grain syncs from there. You can also run a sync on demand or import your full Overflow history.
- How are Overflow fees and refunds handled?
- Grain reads fees, refunds and chargebacks from each Overflow deposit and books the deposit net, with fees posted to the account you choose. A full refund marks the gift refunded. A partial refund leaves the gift in place and reduces the deposit it lands in.
